Upon arrival
Ok you are in a foreign land, and as soon as you step out of your plane or whatever the means of travelling, you should activate your warning bells, because you never know where all the danger lies, beneath the beauty and extravagance.
Ok here are some guides to protect yourself... don’t worry it’s not a martial arts session.
This is general knowledge but I’ll write it down anyway.
• The most vulnerable position to be the victim of a robbery and assault is, if you show any sign cluelessness about your surroundings. Yes you can’t help it, but you can reduce the impact by doing your homework about the country and specially have a vague idea of the destination’s airport.
• Don’t go for a taxi that seems to be straying and being extremely helpful, I believe there are taxi queues which are safe enough to take you into the place of accommodation. Or if you are still in doubt you may ask one of the ground stewardesses to help you out.
• The most important thing to look into is, when doing transactions just as you arrive at the destination. Well this is where you should be brainy. It’s better if you change some of your foreign currency into local currency, which will be sufficient for the 1st day’s expenditure. Keep some in change at an easily accessible pocket in your handbag or hand luggage that will prevent you from pulling large amount of money, outlining you easily as a prey.
Accommodation
If you are staying at a place that is known to you, you can loosen your precautions a bit I guess, but never let down your guard fully.
But if you are in a hotel that is regarded as a 4 or 5 star, running into danger is pretty much at the minimal level. But be cautious some of the stewards are not trustworthy so they might come and sneak away stuff.
So the wisest thing is to put your valuables in the safe provided at the hotel room, but even when doing that please be careful. Make sure to wipe the keypad before you enter your password, and wipe it off after your work is done. Or press other keys as well if an alarm is ringing somewhere you can tell with your sweet innocent smile "wrong password".
Enjoying your stay
Ok here comes the mother hen tone... you are not to talk to strangers, not to eat sweets or drink anything a random person gives... well this may not be the case, but it still stands true... shall we take a look at the adult version of it.
Even though you come to a destination under the guidance of a caring tour operators like deluxe holidays (check them out there really good
www.deluxholidays.com/)
This is what you got to do, to have your head above the troubled waters.
Be confident that you know the place, at least act it out. Going around with a map and looking really confused will really mark you as an easy prey for a person with an eagles view on the people.
Be friendly and charming but keep your limits as well, get your senses checked and don’t be lured into sweet words.
Don’t pull out large amounts of money for something that is relatively small. Always have change because curious eyes will quickly target zoom it on you.
If you have planned a day out or for some activity, take cash that you might think sufficient for it
